Peter Warren Automotive
-
Peter Warren Automotive (PWA) has embedded learning into its DNA for over 65 years. Since 2013, PWA has created more than 917 apprenticeship opportunities, collaborating with RTOs to ensure that training is meeting the demands of a rapidly developing sector.
PWA takes great pride in its culture of learning, highlighted by the creation of its D.R.I.V.E. Program, developed in partnership with TAFE NSW. Operating out of three NSW TAFE campuses, the D.R.I.V.E. Academy has seen 73 full-time apprentices and eight school-based apprentices being employed in 2023 alone.
The business’s aim to push the industry forward is seen in its engagement with the VET qualifications by ensuring they are evolving with the latest updates to the sector, as well as its commitment to diversity – 9% of its apprentices are female. Further to this, 8% of its workforce identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
RetireAustralia
-
RetireAustralia considers a learning-led approach essential to its delivery of compassionate care for older Australians. Shifting from a bricks-and-mortar provider of retirement options to a resident-centric organisation has been possible by instilling the principles of VET at every level.
This commitment to training has evolved, enabling RetireAustralia to equip its team with the skills, knowledge and experience to best serve the residents, but also to elevate the retirement industry as a whole.
The impact of VET is clear in staff retention and satisfaction rates – a 2022 survey revealed a seven-year high of 4.05 out of 5. This reflects back on those in their care, with RetireAustralia scoring an 85% overall satisfaction score from residents. Recently, the Retirement Living Council also earmarked them as an industry-leading provider and declared its approach to training the benchmark.
These results aside, RetireAustralia credits investing in learning, particularly with a VET lens, with improving efficiency and profitability, embedding a sense of accountability and creating a culture of collaboration.
Transdev Australasia Pty Ltd
-
For Transdev, training is seen not as a destination, but rather a continuous journey. As a transport provider that facilitates 50 million customer journeys every year, the value is clear.
Of Transdev’s 3500 NSW-based employees, 242 are involved in a nationally recognised apprenticeship or traineeship – roughly 8% of its workforce, which equates to an average of 3,419 hours per month spent in training.
As part of its commitment to education, Transdev has worked closely with leading RTOs to develop targeted training solutions for a number of cohorts including apprentices and trainees, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and women in non-traditional roles.
After adding 13 electric buses to its fleet, the company is also upskilling its maintenance employees through technological updates with two nationally accredited skillsets.
While Transdev gains so much from its investment in employee development at a business level, the effect on employee confidence and wellbeing is just as rewarding.
